Dr. Md S. Zaman is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Biological Sciences at Alcorn State University in Mississippi and a Fellow of the Mississippi Academy of Sciences. He is currently serving as a Professor of Biology at South Texas College in McAllen, Texas, USA. Prior to joining Alcorn State University, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine, Division of Pediatric Oncology. His academic training is in the fields of Radiation Biology and Immunology/Oncology. He holds a B.S. in Zoology, M.S. in Biology (focusing Biomedical Sciences), M.S.S.E. in Science Education, and Ph.D. in Radiation Biology. Dr. Zaman's primary teaching areas encompass Anatomy & Physiology and Histology at undergraduate and graduate levels. His key research areas include: effects of ionizing radiation on brain myelination, isolation and purification of hematopoietic stem cells from human bone marrow, differentiation of stem cells under the effects of various growth factors and phytoremediation of metal contaminated soils. Dr. Zaman's research has produced significant research and review publications and his current writings primarily focus on a diverse range of environmental issues. Dr. Zaman is committed to his students and believes his career success is tied to their success.
